Meet Katherine Cabrera, NP

Katherine Cabrera NP

I am board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner graduating with honors from Columbia University. I was raised in the mountains of Colorado and moved to New York City to pursue nursing. Since then, I have worked with a wide range of patient populations from neonates to the elderly. As a nurse, I worked in a pediatric long-term care unit and then a home health care agency specializing in the care of children with developmental disabilities in the foster care system in NYC. Once completing my master’s degree in nursing, I worked in primary care clinics but soon realized my passion was to provide care for those who lack access to care, specifically those with developmental disabilities.

I began my career in developmental disabilities while working with Dr. Theodore Kastner (previous commissioner for OPWDD NY) at the Children’s Evaluation and Research Center (CERC) at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in the Bronx. Since then I have continued to broaden my knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other developmental disabilities. I am a preceptor for both graduate nursing students from various universities in the area. I am a trainer for nurse practitioner fellows specializing in developmental pediatrics and also provide clinical on-boarding and training for newly hired advanced practice nurses.

I have been practicing compassionate and inclusive care for children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disabilities for the past 10 years. My goal is to help you find answers and garner understanding about your child. I love being a part of a family’s journey, providing much needed support and diagnostic clarification while helping families better understand complex diagnoses like Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

I live in New Jersey with my husband, 3 daughters, and our dog.
